Hari Nair has a global footprint as a design practitioner and strategist creating substantial business results.
In his current role as the Chief Design Officer of Whirlpool China, he is driving a comprehensive design strategy developing and cultivating product excellence in sync with the global corporate integration process brought about by a China acquisition.
Previously, as the Global Director of Advanced Design at Whirlpool, in Chicago, his studio developed design concepts focused on the future, addressing emerging consumer lifestyle trends to deliver ‘desirable’ products for the home with ‘emotional’ appeal for the whole family.
He played a pivotal role earlier as the Director of Design for Whirlpool Asia, in the turn-around of the India business through the introduction of a strong design process in concert with the business strategy, delivering a series of highly successful products. These products have won numerous awards including the Edison Award for Social Impact and several ‘Good Design’, ‘iF ’, ‘Design for Asia’ and ‘Spark’ Awards.
As a consultant in design and education, Hari has been instrumental in delivering strategic change at MIT, Hasbro, Polaroid, and Swarovski, among others. He has presented papers at IDSA, EDUCOM, SIGGRAPH and other international conferences and currently serves on many design juries and panels.
As an educator at the University of Cincinnati and Rhode Island School of Design, Hari Nair has been instrumental in enhancing the design process through digital integration in its pioneering days.
In addition to a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Kerala, Hari Nair holds Master’s degrees in industrial design from Syracuse University, New York and Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay.
A native of Thiruvanantapuram, Hari Nair comes from an illustrious family accomplished in various aspects of the design profession with international fame.
