Ltd., a part of Kemin Industries Inc, Desmoines, USA. Dr.Ramchandwas also a worldwide executive team member at Kemin Industries.Prior to the assignment at Kemin Industries, Dr Ramchand was with Sun Pharmaceuticals, currently the largest Pharma company in India (as per ORG marg) as its Vice President and Head of Drug Discovery Research (Biological Research Programme) (1999-2004). He was closely involved in the setting up of a multi million Drug Discovery centre including design and development of laboratories. He is also an adjunct faculty, Visiting Professor and PhD guide at Swinburne University of technology, Australia along with Prof. Ajay Kapoor and Dr Ramchand is an Honorary Visiting Professor to European Nanotechnology consortium at University of Newcastle, UK.
Dr.Ramchand is a PhD in Biochemistry from MS University Baroda. He also served as assistant professor (1982-84) at MS University. He has also obtained his M Phil from the same university. He did his Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry at S.D College, Alleppey from 1972 -75. He holds a Masters degree in Chemistry from the University of Kerala. He has also won the Young Scientist award from Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School, UK for 3 times, for the work in the role of membrane pathology in schizophrenia and the development of EPA as a therapy for schizophrenia. He has extensive experience in basic research activities, having handled prestigious projects in the US & UK, both Universities and in the Pharma Industry. He has over 25 years of rich experience in the areas of teaching, basic research, Drug discovery programme and disease mechanisms, guiding M Sc. / PhD. students and setting up Research facility.
Dr Ramchand has closely worked on several molecules and many of these molecules are at different stages of Clinical trials. He has also held the position of Joint coordinator and Head, Laboratory research program at biomedical sciences, University of Sheffield and Northern General Hospital Sheffield, UK (1994-1999), a prestigious University Position. Prior to this he was the Sr. Scientist and Project Head at the Institute of Biological Psychiatry at University of Wales, Bangor UK (1990-1994). He has also worked as Senior Research Officer at the Biochemistry Department, University of North Wales, Bangor, UK (1987- 2-1990). Prior to this he was also a postdoctoral fellow at University of South Carolina, USA (1984-1987)
Dr.Ramchand has published over 70 peer-reviewed papers in international journals, edited 5 books, has 3 patented products and has applied for over 15 patents. He has done over 100 research presentations at International conferences worldwide and was also a senior Visiting fellow at University of Sheffield and University of New Castle Upon-Tyne, UK, and at Slovakian Academy of Sciences, Slovak Republic. He has a very close research association with State University of New York at Buffalo, USA, Florida International University and also is an adjunct faculty and PhD guide at the MS University of Baroda.
Dr Ramchand was the special invitee at the Vibrant Gujarat organized by Chief Minister Narendra Modi, to give a special lecture on nano biotechnology to over 2000 select CEOs and business leaders(2006) and later on 2008 on role of nutrition in disease prevention. He was an invitee to chair and present a plenary talk at the 11th International conference on magnetic fluid at Slovak Republic. He was a special invitee to give a talk at IIM Ahmedabad on Nanotechnology in September 07 and has been invited again by IIM to give a talk during the workshop on Strategic Management of Intellectual Capital and Organisational Knowledge in September 10. Several times, he was an invitee at IIT Madras to give special talks on techno commercial aspects of drug discovery. He was also invited by Creative Realities inc., at Boston, to give a special talk on the future of Drug discovery representing the Asia Pacific region
Dr.Ramchand is the Advisor of Biochemical sciences, ICAR, Delhi –Agricultural Research Recruitment Board and an Advisor, Visiting Professor and PhD guide at Charotar University of Science & Technology, Gujarat and also a Visiting Professor and PhD Guide at SumandeepVidhyapeeth University, Baroda. He was invited to Bharathidasan University, Trichy to give a special talk on Evolution of Ideas to viable business opportunities in Drug Discovery & Development and also on Drug Discovery and Development at Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), Vellore. He has been invited to be the Keynote speaker at the International College for Girls (ICG), Jaipur for the HR Conclave on “Opportunities for emerging talent – Mapping & Meeting Industry’s Expectations” held on 12 th -13 th October 2010. He has organized a total of six international conferences on molecular medicine, the most recent one being at VIT University from February 19 th till 22 nd 2012 in association with The State University of New York at Buffalo , Charotar University of Science & Technology, Changa, Swinburne University of Technology – Australia, Indian Institute of Technology Madras, and Laila Pharmaceuticals Pvt Ltd. Recently he was invited at AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences), New Delhi, India in October 2011 to deliver a talk on “Reverse pharmacology approach for new drug discovery” and by the Drug Information Association to take part in the debate on Outsourcing and Professional Development at the 6 th Annual Conference on “Drug Discovery and Clinical Development : Convergence of Science, Medicine and Market Access Strategies to Benefit patients” at Mumbai from 15 th Oct – 18 th Oct 2011.
